CONDOLENCE MESSAGE: NOBEL PEACE PRIZE LAUREATE PROF. WANGARI MAATHAI

H.E. Ambassador Elkanah Odembo and the entire staff of the Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in Washington D.C. are truly shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Nobel Laureate Prof. Wangari Muta Maathai, which occurred on September 25, 2011.  We wish to convey our greatest sympathy to the family and friends on the passing of a renowned environmental and political activist who will be remembered fondly for her concern for environment preservation and fight for democracy. The late Prof. Maathai was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004, becoming the first African woman to win the prize.

A condolence book is available for signing at the Embassy from Thursday September 29 2011 to Wednesday October 7 2011, from 10:00am – 12:30am and 2:00pm – 4:00pm.

May her soul rest in peace.
